Rules Information

Welcome to the golden age of naval warfare! These rules are intended to be a playable simulation of naval warfare in the age of sail. The first edition of the rules, published by Hard Cover Designs and Raider Games in the mid 1980s concentrated on fleet actions.

This second edition is the product of twelve years of development, bringing the rules to a stage where they can be used for fleet or frigate actions alike. Several major changes have been made since the first edition was published twelve years ago. Many new sections have been added, including crew quality, new rules for oared warships, different ammunition types, shore batteries and shore parties, boat operations, mortars and bomb vessels, fire ships and Algerine ships for those wishing to refight some of the US Navy's early actions in the Mediterranean. Despite the increase in scope offered by the new edition, all the additional rules have been written with the same philosophy as the original rules in mind - that they should be as realistic as possible whilst keeping the system as simple as possible, allowing the players to concentrate on tactics rather than 'fighting the rules'. Above all the most important factor to be retained is for the players to have fun.
